Halloween is the perfect time to dress up as something otherworldly. Whether you’re looking to cosplay an alien from a sci-fi movie, or just want to give your baby a unique costume, here are some ideas for making your family into an outer space family! This is a fun DIY Alien Costume put together using only supplies from Amazon. A great option for families with young kids or kids of any age. Check out this super fun and quick out-of-this-world family costume idea!

DIY Martian Alien Costume

To create your alien look, you will need a silver body suit. You can also just go with any metallic fabric like shiny silver taffeta if you want to save some money. If you don’t have the time or resources for making an entire alien costume from scratch, try buying one of those cheap body suits from Amazon like we did!

Next, add some antennae to your head using silver disco ball headbands! This step is optional but it really helps complete the look so don’t skip this one!

The girl’s treat baskets were homemade. You can learn how to make your own sturdy and cute trick-or-treat basket here! These have held up for years now! I have even passed the orange one down to 2 of my littlest babies for some Halloween fun — and the baskets are still holding up! Now that’s what I call sustainability ♻️

Now that your body suit and antennae are ready, let’s move on to makeup!

I recommend using green face paint. Yes, commit! This costume is easy – except you got to go all in!! The Snazzarroo brand is the best and didn’t feel heavy, cakey, or brittle. Apply the face paint with the recommended sponge and a spray water bottle. I watched a few Youtube Videos before starting. It came off easy peasy with a makeup eraser towel at the end of night.

Then use different shades of green eye shadow to do your makeup—Eyebrows, eyelids, cheeks, even Contouring! For lips, I recommend going with either dark green lipstick or just leaving them bare (Green) (but make sure they’re not chapped). If you are feeling like a sassy alien, add some chunky silver glitter. You could rock some wild lashes but since I wear glasses I skipped the falsies.

Last but not least add alien wigs! They’ll help complete the alien look even more than any other accessory would and they’re pretty fun too! Think Green, Purple, or even Silver! Long or short, it makes the green face paint look even more out-of-this-world!

Baby Astronaut Costume

I really didn’t want to put any face paint on my little baby. Just imagining tears from me and him at bathtime had me opt for a non-painted costume for the little one. I decided to go with an astronaut. This costume I bought and added black socks since I didn’t plan for him to be walking outside that evening, just riding in the stroller. You could buy an Astronaut Onesie Costume like I did or make one using a white sweat pant set!

The best part about dressing up as an alien for Halloween is that you can totally get away with looking like a Martian in public! Everyone loved seeing this costume, young and old alike! If you have kids, this costume also gives them a chance to dress up as something more futuristic than “Star Wars” characters. The best part about buying an astronaut costume for your kids is that they will be able to wear it year-round, not just on Halloween night!

Dress your family as aliens!

Alien costumes are easy to make, and you can use things around the house. You can make costumes for the whole family, even your pets! Make sure to have a camera ready to capture your alien family photos. Everyone loved these simple classic costumes!

I am a firm believer that alien family costumes are seriously awesome. Like best in the galaxy.

The idea of alien life has long been used as a metaphor for humanity’s own self-identity and the search for meaning in life. It is important not only to explore our world but also to look beyond ourselves and consider other worlds where life might exist today or in future generations. 🛸👽 Just kidding, go get some candy with yo kids! I even turned an insulated cooler bag inside out to carry while collecting candy. It looked just like a space bag!
